by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — The sub-state basketball brackets were released today by the Kansas State High School Basketball Association.

The fifth-ranked Wellington girls (17-2) will be the top seed in the Class 4A Clearwater sub-state. Wellington hosts No. 8 seed El Dorado (3-16) in the first round on Monday at 7 p.m.

If Wellington wins it will place the winner of #4 Rose Hill vs. #5 Wichita Collegiate (7-12) on Thursday in Clearwater. The time has yet to be announced.

No. 2 Mulvane (13-6) plays No. 7 Augusta (6-13) and No. 3 Circle (8-11) battles No. 6 Clearwater (6-13) in the other first round games.

The Wellington boys (7-12) will be the No. 6 seed. They will travel to No. 3 Augusta (10-9) in the first round on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

If Wellington wins it will play the winner of No. 2 Clearwater (12-7) and No. 7 Rose Hill (7-12) in the semifinals in Clearwater.

Wichita Collegiate (16-3) is the top seed and will battle Circle (4-15). Mulvane (9-10) is the fourth seed and will battle El Dorado (7-12) a fifth seed.

In the Class 1A Division 1 Dexter sub-state bracket South Haven boys and Caldwell girls got first round byes.

South Haven boys (18-2) is the No. 1 seed and will play the winner of Central Burden (10-11) and Cedar Vale-Dexter (8-13) the No. 4 and 5 seeds.

The Cardinals avoided Udall and Flinthills on the other side of the bracket. Udall (17-3) is the No. 2 seed and will battle the winner of No. 3 Flinthills (16-4) and #6 Caldwell (5-15).

On the girls side, Dexter/Cedar Vale (16-4) receives a bye and will play the the winner of #4 South Haven (11-8) and #5 Central-Burden (4-16).

Caldwell (14-7) will be the No. 2 seed play the winners of #3 Udall (13-8) and #6 Flinthills (4-16) .

In Class 1A Div. II, the Argonia girls (16-4) will receive a bye in the first round of the sub-state it will be hosting.

Look for a juggernaut game to materialize in the sub-state championship. Norwich (18-2) is the top seed and received a bye on the other side.

The Argonia boys (3-17) will be a sixth seed and will battle Attica (7-12) in the first round.
