Seven bands headline the 2017 Kansas Wheat Festival

by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — When you think about the Kansas Wheat Festival, you can’t help but think about the music.

And after the past couple of years of featuring premiere acts such as Logan Mize and Little Texas, the 2017 Festival officials have decided to take a new route, by giving music fans more.

This year, seven musical acts will be on downtown Washington Street stage to entertain the masses. And what a stunning array of music to placate the fans: whether it is honky tonk country, to powerhouse 80s, to acoustic folk, to grassroots Janis Joplin rock, before finishing Saturday day night with top-of-the-line 70s sound.

“I would venture to say we have never had this amount of music ever at one individual Wheat Festival,” said Mark Green, who assembled these bands and will be the Festival’s sound guy. “You are talking about over 10 hours of music.”

Thursday, Wheat Festival fans can see The Marc Baker Show and the Aaron Woods Band.

Friday, after the parade, will include the power 80s sound of Paramount.

On Saturday, the music begins at 6 p.m. and won’t end until nearly midnight with Kitty Hawk Krash, Jenny Wood and The Watchers, Piper Leigh and the Smoking Section, and Image Union.

The following is a short biography of each of the bands you will see this next week in downtown Wellington:

Marc Baker and Untamed Country

Singer-songwriter Marc Baker has a sound that can be compared to artist such as Joe Diffie, Garth Brooks, Brooks and Dunn, and other “Honky-Tonk” artist.
