Council tables development’s agreement until work session and special meeting Thursday

Sumner Newscow report — After a lengthy and heated debate, the Wellington City Council tabled the developer’s agreement that is part of Cowley College building a campus in Wellington. The agreement concerned how much the city and the college were going to pay for things like infrastructure. Water, sewer, and electric were the major issues. City staff and the college had worked out the agreement, but some felt there were still unanswered questions.

By a 3-2 vote, the matter was tabled until 6:30 p.m. Thursday when a work session can be held. A special meeting is set for 8:30 p.m. When they hope to vote on the agreement.

Kip Etter, Kelley Hawley, and Jim Valentine voted to table the measure. Bill Butts and Vince Wetta voted against tabling the matter. Jan Korte could not attend the meeting. Council members agreed to submit their questions by noon Wednesday. Hawley said if anyone wants to add questions they can send them to her on social media, but they do have to be submitted by noon Wednesday.

We will have a full report on the meeting on the Wednesday Sumner Newscow.
