These are formal charges introduced into the Sumner County District Court system. The suspects listed in the complaint have not been tried by a judge or jury unless specified otherwise. All citizens are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Sumner County Commissioner minutes: May 4 and May 5, 2020

Sumner Newscow report — The following are the Sumner County Commissioner minutes for May 4 and May 5, 2020:

May 4, 2020, 9 a.m.

The Board of County Commissioners met in regular session in the Commission Room of the Sumner County Courthouse.  Those present were Chairman John Cooney, Commissioner Steve Warner and Commissioner Jim Newell.  Also present was County Clerk Debra A. Norris and 80th District House Representative Bill Rhiley.

The Commission reviewed and unanimously approved minutes of April 27 and 28.

Information Technology Director Joe Buresh discussed support calls outside of business hours, reviewing the recommended response time.  The Commission advised a policy should be established as to what is acceptable for emergency calls after hours.

Workers to replace culvert on U.S. 81 between Caldwell and South Haven next week

Sumner Newscow report — Workers will soon begin replacing a culvert on U.S. 81 between Caldwell and South Haven, in Sumner County.

The project will replace a culvert on U.S. 81 about seven miles east of K-49 that provides drainage for the Chikaskia River. The work will include grading and surfacing.

The project is expected to begin Monday, May 18. Depending on the weather, it is expected to be completed around mid-October.

During the work, motorists will be directed by traffic-control signs and should expect to slow down at the construction site. At times, traffic will be diverted onto the temporary pavement.

2020 Security State Bank Wheat run scheduled during the Wheat Festival has been canceled

Sumner Newscow Report — With all the changes and uncertainty going on currently, officials have decided to cancel the Security State Bank Wheat Run this year.

“THANK YOU to all of you who have supported the race in the past,” said Jodie Heath, wheat run race director.
