Sumner County has confirmed 92 positive cases as follows: 68 recovered, 2 death, 1 unconfirmed death, and 21 active.

Help Wanted: Operator or Apprentice for City of Wellington Water Distribution and Wastewater departments

The City of Wellington is seeking qualified applicants for the positions of Operator or Apprentice in both the Water Distribution and the Wastewater Departments.  These positions are responsible for the maintenance and operation of both respective water/waste systems including manual tasks and operating various mechanical and power tools and equipment.  Qualified applicants must have and maintain a valid Kansas Drivers License and have the ability to obtain and Kansas Commercial Drivers License.  Additional description of duties on the job application.  The City offers a rewarding benefits package including health benefits, vacation, and retirement.   We are willing to train those individuals with a skill set that aligns with the duties for the positions and will consider all experience when offering a starting wage.  Negotiations for beginning wage start at the range of $13.51 to $14.98.  Please bring all your skills and talents and apply at by August 7.  Both positions are listed, complete your profile, and apply for either or both.

Domestic incident leads to multiple charges of 28-year-old in downtown Wellington Sunday

A domestic incident occurs Sunday.

(Updated, Aug. 3) Sumner Newscow report — On Sunday, July 26, shortly after 10:30 a.m., Wellington officers responded to 122 North Washington regarding a possible disturbance at the Beehive Quilt Shop.  Upon arrival, officers discovered a 58-year-old male and his 28-year-old son involved in a physical assault.

Officers intervene and after a short struggle, the 28-year-old male was taken into custody.    

Augustus Hart, who was visiting his parents in the upstairs apartment of the craft shop, was arrested with a battery of a law enforcement officer, aggravated domestic battery, domestic battery, and criminal damage to property. Hart suffers from Type 1 Bi-polar disorder and had struggled to get the help he needed according to family sources.
