Adda ‘Sis’ Metzen, 97, Wellington: July 4, 1922 – August 4, 2019

Sis Metzen

Adda Elizabeth “Sis” Metzen died on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at her home at Wellington Health and Rehab in Wellington at the age of 97 and 1 month.

“Sis” as she preferred to be called, was born in Winfield on July 4, 1922, to William and Elizabeth “Jennie” (Lacey) McCreary. Sis had three older brothers and a younger brother and sister. She graduated from Milan High School in 1941.

She married Clarence “C.J.” Metzen on February 25, 1954, and to this union C.J. brought four children, Sis brought two children and together they had three more.

They farmed for many years in the Mayfield area and in 1974 they moved to Wellington to retire but Sis could not be idle. At one time she worked three part-time jobs as well as volunteering at the Mission Thrift Shop. One of her favorites was to keep the score at the Meadow Lanes Bowling Alley until she was replaced by the automated scorekeepers. Baseball was her favorite sport. She enjoyed sitting at Sellers Park or watching it on TV, many times watching a re-run and not realizing it.

She was a people person who was loved by all. Sis enjoyed the simple things in life, never wishing for anything and appreciated what she had. She was a very faithful Catholic who would pray the rosary every minute she was alone and enjoyed the Catholic Channel on TV.

Survivors include her children: Betty Lucas of Lawrence, Pat Robinson and her husband Darle of Wellington, Dennis Metzen of Wellington, John Metzen and his wife Susan of Independence, Missouri, Sheryl Sheppard and her husband Larry of Fountain Valley, California, Raymond Metzen and his wife Terrie of Wellington, Ron Metzen and his wife Linda of Mayfield and Darlene Metzen of Clearwater; 26 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 18  great-great grandchildren also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, C.J. Metzen; daughter, Marilyn Cook and grandchildren: Jean Elizabeth Metzen and William Joseph Metzen along with her four brothers and one sister.
