by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — Annarose White, Wellington Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, has resigned her position to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities.

White, who submitted her resignation this morning, will remain as executive director until November 15, after the Wellington Fall Festival and Halloween parade. The WACC board is already advertising for her replacement and will be featured on Sumner Newscow soon.

White said she will become the owner/manager of the new business Creative Toys and Beehive Quit Shop which plans to open in the late fall – in the building that was once known as the J.C. Penney building and recently was the former Turning Pointe Dance Studio.

White joined the Chamber in March 2015, replacing Shelley Hansel, who resigned after announcing she was running for mayor and pursuing other economic opportunities.

“I think looking back what I am most proud of is the partnership we have formed with Cowley College and I had the opportunity to be part of that,” White said.

During her tenure the Kansas Wheat Festival grew, the downtown Christmas parade became a mainstay and several events like the expanded Fall Festival, the Barbecue Cook-off, and the upcoming Halloween parade will be marks of her tenure in Wellington.

She also helped improve the accountability of the WACC office where it is now on solid financial shape.

“I think the chamber job is very stressful, yet very rewarding,” White said. “You have to be able to listen and be a problem solver. And you have to know a little about everything. People will call asking about so many different things.”

White said she will continue to serve Wellington in various capacities including being on the Park Board, and helping to raise funds for improvements on the lots of the Antlers Hotel and Heritage Park.

Annarose is the wife of Phil White, an employee of Impact Bank and a former legendary radio broadcaster. It is also rumored that the family will be expanding its home operation and responsibilities in February.
