Centenarian Roberta May Henton, 100, Wakita, Okla.: Dec. 1, 1919 – July 8, 2020

Roberta May Henton died on Wednesday, July 8, 2020, at the Community Health Center in Wakita, Okla. at the age of 100. Born on December 1, 1919, with an official birth certificate stating December 3, 1919, the story is that she was born at home on the family farm north of South Haven on the first.

There was a blizzard in progress and the doctor could not make it to the farm. On December 3, the doctor arrived and dated her birth on that day. Roberta graduated from South Haven High School in 1937. She married LeRoy Henton on April 29, 1947, and became a mother to LeRoy’s three sons: Eugene Abbott, Donald Henton and Robert Henton. Roberta and LeRoy had three children: Nancy (Henton) McCarren and her husband Tom of Crossville, Tenn., Thomas Henton and his wife Sherry of Lamont, Okla. and Aaron Henton and his wife Susie of Kansas City, Mo.

She worked several jobs but her pride was being the Manager at the South Haven Senior Center for many years. She also started and hosted the Senior Olympics for many years in South Haven She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Effie Robinson and by four brothers: Clinton, Gilbert, Bernal, Robert, three sisters: Aileen, Delores and Donna Jean and two sons, Eugene Abbott and Robert Henton.

She is survived by children Donald Henton, Nancy McCarren, Tom Henton and Aaron Henton, 25 grandchildren along with numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great great great grandchildren (from Shanghai, China to Florida, Missouri, Oklahoma and beyond). A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, July 12, 2020, with the family present to receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Graveside services for Roberta will begin at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 13, 2020, in the Rose Hill Cemetery, South Haven, KS with Mike Gracy officiating. Memorial contributions can be given in her name and loving memory to the Community Church of South Haven or Community Health Center of Wakita, OK.
