Freewill Baptist Church giveaway helped over 100 families, next one is May 30

by Amber Countryman, Sumner Newscow — God works in mysterious ways, and sometimes he works through people. Annie Scott, a member of the Free Will Baptist Church, felt led by God to help people in the community during the COVID-19 health pandemic. Last Saturday, the church hosted a giveaway of clothing, toys, food, etc. and helped over 100 local families.

“I figured this would be a good time to bless people,” Scott said.

Another giveaway event will be held on Saturday, May 30 at the Free Will Baptist Church in Wellington.

“Just today, we received a donation of 1,500 brand new adult clothing items,” Scott said.

Several local businesses and community members donated items of adult and children’s clothing, toys, games, home decor, purses, jewelry, personal hygiene items, school supplies, shoes, accessories, cosmetics, books, and both perishable and non-perishable grocery items.

“People are really coming together and blessing others,” Scott said.

In three months, the church plans to have another giveaway event.

Several members of the church have volunteered their time to set up the event, and will be on-site for assistance.

“Our goal is to bless as many people as we can,” Scott said.

Each individual who schedules a free shopping appointment can choose 20 items, plus will be given three bags of groceries. The church takes every precaution necessary to make sure to follow governor’s orders, and are making sure that everything is sanitized. They also ask those entering the building to sanitize their hands before grabbing their three empty shopping bags.
