Mary “Louise” Burkhart, 91, loving mother and grandmother, died Thursday morning, May 19, 2017 at her farm home of over 68 years in rural South Haven.

Mary “Louise” (Thomas) Burkhart was born on January 16, 1926 in rural Wellington, KS at her Grandparents home to Cecil Eli Thomas and Anna Florence (Headly) Thomas.  She attended country school in Perth, KS and graduated with the Wellington High School Class of 1945.

Louise married Elvin “Elmer” Burkhart on May 15 1948 in Waterloo, IA. They celebrated 55 years of marriage before Elmer passed away in 2003.Louise enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of the South Haven Baptist Church, a former 4-H member and leader. Louise truly loved the Lord and worked very hard to keep the church going as smooth as possible by being church clerk, teaching Sunday school, and filling in playing the piano when needed.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmer; great grandson, Caleb Aaron Hibbard; three brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include one son, Thomas Elmer Burkhart of rural South Haven, KS; one daughter, Mary Lois Hibbard and her husband Jim of Wellington, KS; three granddaughters, Michelle Diane Hibbard and Jennifer Leanne McBath, both of Wellington, KS, and Angela Marie Hibbard of Troy, OH; one sister in law, Arlene Albrect of Wichita, KS; five great grandchildren, Bryan Andrew Green and his wife Cheyanne of Kansas City, MO, Brianna Hibbard, Bradley McBath and Ciera McBath all of Wellington, KS, and Addisyn Russell of Troy, OH; three great great grandchildren, Kaleb, Rylee and Reagan Green of Kansas City, MO.

Funeral Services will be held at the South Haven Baptist Church on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at 10:30 A.M.  Pastor G. Edmond Thomas will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Rose Hill Cemetery in South Haven, KS.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, May 22, 2017 from 1 to 8 p.m. The family will be present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Memorials have been established with the South Haven Baptist Church and Rivercross Hospice in lieu of flowers.  Contributions can be left at the funeral home.
