Payton Ginter qualifies for Class 4A State tournament in girls golf

Sumner Newscow report — Payton Ginter, a Wellington High School freshman, qualified for the Class 4A State Tournament in girls golf Monday afternoon. Not a bad accomplishment for the first year of the program.

Ginter shot a 109, and placed 11th individually for Wellington at the Smoky Hills Country Club in Hays during what was a cool autumn day. The top three teams and five individuals qualify for state. Karee Dinkel of Hays was the winner with an 84 on the 18-hole tournament.

Ginter was the third lowest scorer for a freshman in the tournament behind Sophia Garrison of Hays and Jaela Albers of Andale, who both shot a 108.

Other Wellington scorers were: •Taylor Heasty, 136 – 33rd place.

•Kaitlynne Kreifels, 180 – 49th place.

•Alisa Walters, 185 – 50th place.

As a team, Wellington finished 610 for eighth place. Andale High School won the tournament with a 400.

Ginter will now play at the Topeka-Lake Shawnee Golf Course in the Class 4A tournament on Monday, Oct. 16. Ginter will be in group No. 6 teeing off at 9:30 a.m.
