Sumner County Court Docket: Recent filings and convictions/dismissals

by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — The following are two lists coming from the Sumner County District Court office.

The first list is “Court Complaint Filings” which are criminal court complaints recently filed by the Sumner County Attorney’s office. The suspects listed in the complaint list have not been tried by a judge or jury. All citizens are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The second list is the “Convictions by Degree” which are cases where a verdict has been rendered by a Sumner County judge or jury.

Court Complaint filings:

Virginia Gillette, born in 1959, of Wichita has been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana, both Class A Misdemeanors.

According to the complaint, authorities confiscated a green glass smoking pipe found in her hand, three plastic pipes, three small plastic baggies containing white residue, three straws, and at the rolling part of three marijuana cigarettes found in her purse.

A hearing is set for April 25.

Jesus Jose Reyes, born in 1957, of Belle Plaine, is charged with carrying a concealed firearm, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Possession of meth is a felony while the other two are Class A misdemeanors.

Reyes allegedly unlawfully was carrying a pistol or revolver, methamphetamine and a plastic baggie and a spoon containing white powder.

Debra Sumner, born in 1957, of Oxford was charged with battery, a Class B Misdemeanor; and disorderly conduct, a Class C Misdemeanor.

According to the complaint, Sumner caused physic contact to a victim by hitting and biting him causing significant bleeding. She also allegedly used fighting words used to disturb others during the alleged altercation on April 1.

Kevin Chattin, born in 1993, of Wellington was charged with possession of methamphetamine, a Level 5 drug felony; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class A Misdemeanor.

Chattin is accused of possessing meth and a small baggie in his wallet containing his Kansas ID card.

Lars Lynn Bergman, born in 1985, of South Haven was charged with burglary, a level 9 nonperson felony; attempted theft, a Class B misdemeanor; and criminal trespass, a Class B Misdemeanor.

According to the complaint, Bergman entered into a building at 817 N. Woodlawn with intent to commit a theft therein. Bergman allegedly forcefully and knowingly pried open the door and removed a weed eater, garden hose, mailbox and other items from the building without permission.

Kimberly Chattin, born in 1966, of Wellington is charged with possession of methamphetamine; a drug 5 felony; possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class A Misdemeanor; and obstructing apprehension of suspect.

According to the complaint, Chattin possessed meth in a pink bag in her purse. She also allegedly had three syringes and a bent metal spoon inside a brown eyeglass case on the nightstand next to her bed.

She then is accused of concealing her son Kevin Chattin who had an outstanding misdemeanor arrest warrant from Sumner County District Court. She allegedly told law enforcement that Kevin was not at the residence when he was actually hiding in a back bedroom.

Kenneth Farley, born in 1958, of Wellington was charged with possession of marijuana, a Level 5 drug felony; possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class A Misdemeanor; and obstructing apprehension of suspect, a Class A Misdemeanor.

Farley is accused of possessing a a clear baggy containing meth next to his dresser in his bedroom. He also allegedly possessed a baggy containing meth and two lightbulbs modified to use to smoke illegal substances.

He was also accused of hiding Kevin Chattin, who was charged with committing a misdemeanor with intent of having a person avoid prosecution or escape from arrest or punishment. Farley allegedly told a Sheriff deputy that Chattin had moved out and was not at the residence when actually he was hiding in a back room of the house.

Benjamin Wolfenbarger, born in 1964 of Clearwater, is charged with battery, a Class B Misdemeanor; and disorderly conduct, a Class C Misdemeanor.

Wolfenbarger is accused of angrily punching a victim in the face and using fighting words in the process.

Cynthia Radcliff, born in 1974, of Wellington is charged with possession of marijuana, a Class A Misdemeanor; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class A Misdemeanor.

Amber Dorsey, born in 1986, of Belle Plaine is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class A Misdemeanor; identity theft, a Level 8 felony; forgery, a level 8 felony; possession of stolen vehicle; a Class A Misdemeanor; and Theft of property lost, mislaid, or delivered by mistake, a Class A Misdemeanor.

According to the complaint, Dorsey possessed a glass skull bong, bluish glass pipe in her bedroom and a glass pit, straw with residue, and a clear plastic jewel bags found in a Crown Royal bag in a Ford Mustang.

She allegedly also had unlawfully possessed personal identification and financial information belonging to another person with intent to defraud that person.

Dorsey also allegedly made out a felonious check drawn on another person’s account that was to be made payable to her boyfriend.

She is also accused of unlawfully obtaining control over three credit cards: Achieve Card Master Care, Green Dot Visa Card and One Master Card – from three different owners. It was left at her house and she put the credit cards in her night stand in her bedroom without making an attempt to contacting the owners of the credit cards, the complaint said.

Stuart Anthony Erwin, born in 1982, of Belle Plaine, was charged with possession of marijuana, a Class A Misdemeanor; possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class A Misdemeanor; and theft, a Class A misdemeanor.

Erwin is accused of possessing a hallucinogenic drug, a glass skull bong, blue glass pipe in his house; and straw with residue and seven clear plastic jewel bags found in a Crown Royal bag in the Ford Mustang.

He also allegedly had stolen financial papers and checks belong to another person.

Terry Southard, born in 1975, of Wellington was charged with criminal threat, a Level 9 felony; and disorderly conduct, a Class C Misdemeanor. He allegedly yelled at two women that he was going to burn their house down.
