Washington Elementary receives Challenge Award – a top 100 Kansas school

Sumner Newscow report — Jim McNiece, Kansas State Board of Education Representative, attended Monday night’s Wellington School Board meeting to present Washington Elementary with the Challenge Award.

This award recognizes schools for outstanding achievements and uncommon accomplishments based on Kansas math and reading assessment results and other qualifying factors, specifically the sample size, ethnicity and social-emotional status of those taking the test. Graduation rates for high schools and chronic absenteeism rates for middle and elementary schools are also factored in. The top 100 Kansas schools are selected for this honor each year.

Washington teachers and Washington Principal Ann Shinliver were there to accept the award.
