Wellington High School Featured Valedictorian: Kayma Brand

by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — With Wellington High School graduation ceremony set for Saturday at 2 p.m., Sumner Newscow is featuring the six students who were named Valedictorian of the Class of 2017. We are featuring a senior every 12 hours leading up to graduation.

Our fifth featured Valedictorian is Kayma Brand.

Parents/guardians: John and Amy Brand. 

List of high school accomplishments: Held officer positions in SADD, National Honor Society and Class. I have also completed my associates in Psychology through Cowley County Community College. 

Future aspirations (college, career plans): Attending Kansas State University and majoring in Psychology. 

Favorite past time: I enjoyed being part of the WHS Lady Tennis team. Although I only played two years, I always felt like a Crusader on the team. 

Favorite television show: The Office. 

Favorite movie: The Titanic.

Favorite book: 19 Minutes by Jodi Picolt.   

Favorite teacher: The inspiring Ms. Case.

Person you most admire. Why? I admire Mrs. Case the most. After years of teaching she is still inspiring and motivating. She pushes her students, including me, to do their best. 

Most memorable school moment: Junior year class float building: WE WON THAT YEAR.

Your favorite quote or words to live by: “If you ask anyone the one thing I say the most is “You just do you” — meaning do what makes you happy and ignore what others have to say.
