Wellington High School graduation has been canceled

Sumner Newscow report — The following is a statement by Wellington Superintendent Adam Hatfield:

Adam Hatfield

“It is with great sadness that I am writing to you today to tell you that we are going to have to cancel graduation on Sunday.  After trying to adjust our ceremony yesterday, the Health Department received additional information that put them in a position to recommend that we cancel altogether for the safety of the community.

The Sumner County Health Department has been a great partner throughout this period of time and we appreciate their willingness to make tough decisions to keep our community safe.

I know you all have plans already in place this weekend and that many of you have family traveling to support you.  I know many of you had to make adjustments just yesterday and now have to adjust again.  I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has been for everyone.

Graduates, you have had a tough year and missed out on so much.  We all really wanted this for you and we did everything possible to try to make it happen.  However, the safety of you, your family, and our entire community is absolutely the most important thing.

We could not be more proud of you and all of your accomplishments throughout your school career.  We wish you luck and know that you will make us proud with whatever your future brings.  Just remember, from here forward, you will always be Crusaders.”
