Many Wellington restaurants have opened their dine-in, but some are still waiting

(Update with Boss Hog Barbecue change)

by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — The four-phase process announced by Kansas Governor Laura Kelly has given local restaurants an opportunity to get back to work, and several restaurant owners in Wellington are doing just that.

While the Pandemic shutdown has caused many hardships to some restaurant owners, others have privately said that the period hasn’t been as bad as they previously thought. Some have even said privately that it has allowed them to develop their take-out ordering service.

“We have gotten new customers with carry out and curbside service,” said one restauranteur, who wished to remain nameless. “I think there are a lot of people who like to pick up the food and take it home to eat. It will be interesting to see if this continues after the pandemic is over.”

But others would just as soon get back to normal. Here is the latest list of different restaurants or places where you can eat and their re-opening decisions.

Wellington Heat to cancel the 2020 season due to the coronavirus pandemic

Sumner Newscow report — The following was sent by the Wellington Heat management on its Facebook business page:

“The Wellington Heat and the KCLB league have been closely monitoring Covid-19 updates from State and Local authorities, and today we are announcing the unfortunate decision to cancel the 2020 baseball season. The safety of our fans, players, and staff are our first priority. We have looked at both local and surrounding impacts of the Covid-19 on sporting events seriously.

To help support and contain the spread Covid-19, the Heat family and the Kansas Colligate Baseball League and its teams have determined that in order to protect our fans, players, staff, medical personnel, and the community, it is impossible at this time to comply with medical recommendations and government policies while conducting our regular season. While these are unprecedented times, the KCLB and the Heat always strive to give the full experience of our nation’s pastime and already are preparing for the 2021 season and the return for Heat Baseball.
