Summit Learning responds to Monday’s school board vote

Sumner Newscow report — The following is a statement from Catherine Madden, the Director of Communications of Summit Learning office in San Francisco, in response to Monday’s Wellington School Board 4-3 vote to terminate its contract in July (see story here).

“The Summit Learning team strives to provide local leaders with the information they need to make the best decisions for their communities. With the tremendous evidence of the success of Summit Learning across the Wellington Unified School district, we’re surprised and disappointed that the board voted this week to discontinue the program.

For the first time in more than a decade, sophomores from Wellington High School performed above the state average, after just one year in the Summit Learning program. Summit Learning also prepared Wellington schools to transition to a remote learning environment when schools closed in March, thanks to their pre-COVID focus on strong student-teacher relationships through one-on-one mentoring, and a focus on teaching life skills. In addition, teachers have been able to continue to provide resources and feedback to students through the Summit Learning platform without interruption during school closures.
