(Full story) Wellington peaceful protest brings out 150 to 200 people, no incidents reported

by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — A crowd estimated anywhere from 150 to 200 people congregated in downtown Wellington yesterday for a peaceful protest over the racial strife in America.

Contrary to social media angst that the protest was going to attract outside agitators, the protest was far from that, made up mostly of Wellington people of all races. Wellington’s peaceful protests were like similar demonstrations in Hutchinson and across the nation.

“I thought it went pretty well, especially with all negativity and threats I’ve been receiving on social media,” said Erma (Barnes) Ratliff, the organizer of the event. “The bad guys behind the computer screen I call them.”

Erma Ratliff (left), hands out water. She was the organizer of the event.

Whether the rancor on Facebook helped or hurt the turnout will be hotly debated. Those who did make the appearance seemed little concerned with the threat of violence. There appeared to be few to no resisters on the outskirts. A few people could be seen standing outside downtown businesses and in the area parking lots viewing the events from afar.
