Sumner Newscow report — The USD 335 Wellington School Board will be held tonight at 7 p.m. at the Wellington High School auditorium, not the school board administrative center. The agenda is as follows:

Gary Jesseph

Gary Jesseph, age 56, of Fayetteville, Ark. died Saturday, June 6, 2020, at his home.

He was born July 17, 1963, in Wellington, the son of Donald Wayne and Clorene (Long) Jesseph.

Gary grew up in Buckner, Mo. and received his education at Fort Osage High School in Independence, Mo. Most of his life was spent traveling the country, working as a foreman for Nowak Construction Company, as one of the first certified operators of a directional drill (Ditch Witch).  He was also a member of the Harley Davidson H.O.G. Chapter. 

Three named first-ever SCCDAT ‘Teens Need Teens’ scholarship winners

Sumner Newscow report — The Sumner County Community Drug Action Team announced the three “Teen Need Teens” scholarship winners. This marks the first time for this scholarship. The three winners are listed as follows:

Lucy Schneider

Schneider is a graduating senior from Caldwell High School. She has been involved with SCCDAT for many years and this year she was named the first-ever “Teens Needs Teens President.” She was active for us in projects such as Sticker Shock, Kansas Youth Leadership Summit, and the Sumner County Youth Summit. Schneider plans to attend Wichita State University and major in K-12 Physical Education.

Computer E-Waste Collection Day to be held June 13 from 9 a.m. to noon

Sumner Newscow report — Computer E-Waste Collection Day will be held on June 13, 2020, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Wellington Recycling Center.

The City of Wellington is now collecting ONLY unwanted, working and non-working electronic devices.  Computers, laptops, networking, LED monitors, servers, cables and plugs.

NOT accepting CRT monitors, TV’s, microwaves or printers
