Crusader preview: Wellington hosts Buhler in final home contest of regular season

by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — The Wellington Crusader football team dropped a big one against El Dorado last week. It was a game Wellington head coach Zane Aguilar said he would like to have back.

But all will be forgotten if Wellington can defeat Buhler this Friday night. This would be a big upset if Wellington wins. But it has happened before – like last year.

Wellington stunned Buhler at its place in arguably the red Crusaders’ biggest win of the past two seasons. Wellington, coming off a big loss to Ulysses the week before, went into Buhler and was trailing the Maroon 13-7 going into the fourth quarter.

Wellington then went on a 20-0 run that included some intense theatrics like a kickoff that went high in the air for 10 yards that got muffed and a couple of interceptions to give the south Crusaders a stunning 28-13 victory.

Sumner Newscow weekly poll: The scarecrow contest question

by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — There were 38 entries in this year’s scarecrow contest in Wellington downtown. Although the winners have already been announced (see here), we thought it would be fun to host a Sumner Newscow People’s Choice award.

So we are asking you to pick the top three of the 10 nominees. We couldn’t get all 38 on and that would be a mess anyway, we have rounded it down to the top 10. Think of it as American Idol. The judges pick the nominees and then you the people vote …

What is your favorite Wellington downtown scarecrow display (vote for 3)
