Kenneth Leroy Everhart, 88, Wellington: June 27, 1933 – Oct. 30, 2021

Kenneth Leroy Everhart was born to Clinton Harold Everhart and Frances Fern (Phares) Everhart on June 27, 1933, in Utica, Kans. Ken died peacefully on October 30, 2021, in Winfield, with his family at his side.

Ken’s work ethic, faith and devotion to others started at a young age being raised on a farm in Dodge City, Kans. along with his five siblings. Ken enjoyed a successful football career at Dodge City High School before joining the Marines.

After an honorable medical discharge from the Marines, he returned to Kansas and was recruited to play football at Southwestern College. His sports career landed him many awards including All-State Guard in high school, All-Conference honors for all four years in college in differing positions, and Second Team National All Methodist Team.

Wellington Cross Country boys finish 12th at state meet in Wamego

Sumner Newscow report — The Wellington fall sports season is officially over and it has been a while that it was the cross-country boys who were the team to do it.

Wellington finished 12th out of the 12 full teams to go to the Class 4A Cross Country meet in Wamego Saturday morning. The Crusaders scored 297 points trailing McPherson which scored 269 points. Buhler won the meet with 51 with Wamego finishing second with 67 (remember lower scores are best in cross country).

John Paul Barclay

John Paul Barclay, 20, a beloved son, brother, family member, and friend died on Tuesday, October 26, 2021.

He was born in Sedalia, Mo. on August 15, 2001, to Tim and Julie Barclay. John Paul grew up in Beavercreek, Ohio where he attended St. Luke Elementary School and graduated from Carroll High School in 2020.

He was accepted to Miami University where he planned to study medicine in hopes of becoming a neurosurgeon. Those who knew John Paul will miss his beautiful smile and giving heart most. He had a special way of connecting to people’s hearts and was always willing to spend time with folks and give advice if asked.
