Annual Veterans’ Day Program to return on Nov. 11

Sumner Newscow report — The annual Wellington Veteran’s Day Program will be held on Nov. 11 at 10 a.m. at the Wellington High School auditorium.

The program that was preempted last year due to the pandemic will return. It is organized by the Wellington American Legion.

The program will be as follows:

Welcome – Larry Anderson.

Post Colors – David Carroll and Jim Scheerger

Star-Spangled Banner – Wellington High School Choir – Jennifer Ault, director.

Laura Ann Torrez, 69, of Arkansas City died Wednesday, November 3, 2021. Cremation has been affected. Funeral Mass has been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home Chapel. Father Sam Brand will officiate.

Laura was born February 5, 1952, in Wellington, to Lauro A. and Gabriela C. (Chavez) Viramontes. She grew up and attended schools in Wellington, graduating from Wellington High School in 1970. After high school, she earned her Bachelors’s Degree as a dental assistant.

Sumner County District #1 Hospital holds ground-breaking ceremony; target completion date is 2023

Submitted to Sumner Newscow — Sumner County Hospital District No. 1 and its Board of Trustees held an outdoor groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, November 4. The event took place at the construction site near Highway 81 and Greene Road.

Breaking ground was CEO, Brooke Bollman, and Board of Trustees, Duane Nulik, Roxie Hutsler, Mary Overall, Dean Bruey, Marshall Love, Marla Nispel, Clifton Risley, Pam Lungren, and Joel Hudson.

Also, there to share in the celebration were the hospital’s facility committee, members of the staff, the Caldwell Area Hospital and Health Foundation, and many from the public.

“This is a giant leap for the hospital district,” said hospital CEO Brooke Bollman. “Our state-of-the-art facility will bring advanced technology and expanded services to the Caldwell area for generations to come.”
