Caldwell farmer Galen Lowe is the winner of the 2022 Kansas State Fair Market Wheat Show

Galen Lowe – State Champion Wheat Exhibitor.

Sumner Newscow report — Caldwell farmer Galen Lowe was the winner of the 2022 Kansas State Fair Market Wheat Show in Hutchinson.  His Grand Champion entry was the wheat variety Double Stop CL.  The wheat was entered at the Sumner County Fair, which also won.

It was then submitted to the state level.  At state, it was judged and analyzed, competing against other wheat entries across the state on milling and baking quality, test weight, protein content, dockage, and number of shrunken and broken kernels.  In a rare occurrence this year, eight of the top nine entries were the same Double Stop CL variety as Galen’s.

Kansas Lt. Governor David Toland (picture, right side) presented a plaque to Galen on behalf of The Kansas Wheat Commission at the State Fair on September 15.  Also attending was Sumner County Extension Agent Randy Hein (picture, left side).  Galen is a third-generation farmer in Sumner County.

He has a bachelor’s degree in Business from Wichita State University.  His wife, Karen is a retired teacher.  Their daughter, Kelley is a high school senior and a dual credit student at Cowley County Community College.
