Dr. Gregg Shore, M.D. to become new surgeon at SRMC

by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow —  Dr. Gregg Shore, M.D., has officially signed on to be a surgeon at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Wellington. He will specialize in general and colorectal surgery.

Shore will join the SRMC medical staff during the first week of March. This ends a more than 18-month surgeon vacancy at SRMC when Dr. Janelle Yutzie, left the hospital in June 2012 to move to Oregon.

Shore comes to Wellington after spending eight years in private practice, splitting time in Florida and Tennessee.

“I wanted to live in a smaller town,” Shore said about his reason for moving to Wellington. “I really have no ties to Kansas family wise. I wanted to live in the Midwest and this opportunity existed.”

Shore has had an extensive existence. He grew up in Montreal, Canada and eventually graduated from McGill University in Montreal with a microbiology degree.

He would then receive his medical degree from Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland and internship at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He would then complete his surgeon residency in New York City.

At that point, Shore was a teaching professor at the University of Alabama and an assistant professor of surgery. He would spend eight years there before establishing himself as a specialist in general and colorectal surgery at the Maury Regional Medical Center in Spring Hill, Tenn.

His specialties will be colon and rectal cancer, Crohn’s Disease, and ulcerative colitis surgeries. He will also supply bread-and-butter surgery such as laparoscopy, major intestinal and proctology surgery.

“I’m excited to be moving to Wellington,” Shore said. “I am eager to reestablish and reignite with the patients who were with Yutzie and hopefully grow the business as well.”
