Mary was born the daughter of Ray and Margie (Beltz) Pitts on November 18, 1949 in Borger, Texas. At the age of two, her parents moved to a farm in Smith County, Kansas, where she would spend her formative years growing up.

Mary was a compassionate and creative soul whose loving heart and reliable nature touched countless lives in her beloved community of Wellington, Kansas. Mary’s life was a beautiful tapestry woven with threads of dedication, care, and creativity that extended from her professional life as a gifted Radiology Technician to her life’s passions of baking, cooking, and tending to her garden. Mary’s knack for nurturing didn’t just stop with her green thumb. Whether it was sewing, crafting, or pouring her love into the meals she prepared for her church, Mary’s devotion to caring for and supporting others was the hallmark of her personality.

Mary’s involvement in her community was a testament to her fervor for bringing people together. She was the driving force behind the Kansas Wheat Festival in Wellington for its first two decades, a board member of the Chisholm Trail Museum, president of the Wellington Art Association, and a culinary pillar at her church.  Despite her many responsibilities, she always made time over the years for her beloved pets, Chippy, Missy, and Pearl. Above everything, Mary cherished her family, her heart’s greatest treasure.
