South Haven’s Kami Butler
by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — This week we are going to go with two Big Cheese Athletes of the Week – both representatives of the South-Central Border League tournament champions for their respective teams.
Kami Butler, a South Haven junior, helped lead the Cardinals to an SCBL tournament championship. In her three tournament starts, Butler had 17 points against Caldwell, 13 against Sedan and 5 against Flinthills. South Haven head coach Mike Heater said when she was in the game, South Haven outscored opponents by 70 points.
Caldwell’s Matrix Eames
Matrix Eames, a Caldwell sophomore, helped lead the Bluejays to an SCBL tournament championship by defeating Cedar Vale-Dexter in the finals 38-34. Eames averaged 10 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 3.1 steals per game in the three tournament games. He scored 16 points and had 14 rebounds against West Elk in an earlier contest.
For their efforts, Butler and Eames are recipients of a large delicious Big Cheese Pizza at 324 N. Washington.
