Wellington High School graduation is still on, but stay tuned

Sumner Newscow report — After it was announced that the Wichita School District has canceled its graduation ceremonies scheduled for July 24-26, Wellington will continue as planned, but will not rule out any changes.

The following correspondence was sent to Sumner Newscow today concerning the Wellington High School graduation scheduled for Sunday, July 12 at 2 p.m. at the WHS main gym.

“We have said from the beginning that we will celebrate our seniors on July 12 following local health officials guidelines, whatever those are at that time. We have been in constant contact with the Sumner County Health Department and reached out to them as late as yesterday for guidance.

As of right now, graduation is still being held as planned. We will make an announcement as soon as we know if we need to make any changes. The health and safety of our staff, students and community continue to be our top priority. Therefore, we realize we might have to make last-minute changes to our plans due to this rapidly changing situation. We thank everyone for their understanding and flexibility on this.”

The graduation will be live-streamed for viewers at home. The link can be found here:

Students will be allowed five tickets. Information will be provided soon where students can pick up tickets.

Families can sit together but must be six feet between other families.

Masks are recommended but not required (that could change).

Hand sanitizer will be available at all entrances and patrons will need to use it, coming in and going out.

There will be no band or choir. Music will be pre-recorded.
