Submitted to Sumner Newscow —  A Wellington resident has been recognized with a special award from the Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland for her extraordinary service as a volunteer.

Linda Wilson of Wellington received the Volunteer of Excellence Award for displaying excellent service in delivering the Girl Scout mission while working directly with girls in a troop, camp or other activity.

Wilson is among 85 volunteers being honored with awards from the Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland Council, which serves 80 counties in Kansas.

“Each and every day I am energized witnessing our many successes in building girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place,” said Liz Workman, CEO of Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland. “Our volunteers play a key part in our organization by serving in a myriad of important roles delivering Girl Scouting experiences to the girls across our council.

“They help Girl Scouts shine by encouraging them to raise their hands, take action, give back to their communities, and set their sights on the stars. We know that when girls are given the opportunity, they change the world!”
