Rock Island concession stand, recently remodeled by Triumph Accessory Services, has been broken into… twice!

by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — Well, so much for the feel-good story of the year. Just six months ago, the community celebrated the refurbishing of the Rock Island Concession Building thanks to the overwhelming donation of time and resources by Triumph Accessory Services in Wellington (see story here).

Now the new concession stand at the ball fields in southwest Wellington have been broken into… twice!

“I’m tired of the little hoodlums doing this,” said Wellington Recreation Commission Director Cody White. “This was such a nice building redone by volunteers this winter. To see it vandalized angers me.”

The thief or thieves didn’t get much. They grabbed a Toshiba laptop for about $380 and a couple of boxes of candy. The WRC takes the concession money box out each night after a softball night.

The big bill will be vandalism and trying to make the building more secure which White estimates will be over $1,000. The crime occurred sometime last night or early this morning.

The first time someone kicked the door in and got in only to steal some candy. This time the concession window was broken into and the intruder(s) reached in to open the other window and climbed in.

Once they got in they took a box of Payday and Snickers candy bars, some soda pop, and the laptop. The bulk of the candy and drinks were left intact. A cabinet door was damaged as they rummaged through it.

The WRC Recreation Center was the target of vandalism in September. Those people were caught.

White hopes to have similar success with the concession stand break ins.
