17-year-old Wellington boy rolls vehicle at north of Worden Park Tuesday evening

There was a rollover injury accident just north of Worden Park by the north Wellington water tower Tuesday evening.

Sumner Newscow report — A Wellington juvenile male was involved in a one-car injury accident on E. 20th Ave., the road directly north of Worden Park in Wellington on Tuesday evening at 10:38 p.m. The name is not published because he is 17 and considered a juvenile.

According to a Wellington Police accident report, the 17-year-old was driving westbound on the dirt road when he took his eyes off his driving and was looking at the car radio. He lost control of the 2002 Pontiac Grand Am four-door he was driving and hit a ditch. The car rolled and landed on its top. According to the report, there were no passengers. There was no report of the extent of his injuries.

The car collided with the west edge of a black fence surrounding the north Wellington water tower, destroying the southwest section. The estimated damage to the fence has not been calculated.

The 17-year-old was issued a Notice to Appear for speeding 40 mph in a 30 mph zone and driving in violation of restrictions.

His mother, Robyn Winter, 37, of Wellington, was also issued a Notice to Appear for allowing an unauthorized operator to drive.
