Wellington’s varsity track team traveled to Clearwater for the second time this year on April 24. The Crusader girls would finish third, while the boys finished fifth. Earlier last week Wellington boys won the Caldwell Border-Queen Classic.

In Clearwater, WHS sophomore Jace Schettler finished first in both the 100 and 200 meters. Schettler clocked in with a 12:74 time in the 100 and 27:28 time in the 200.

Leah Nelson placed first in the 400 meter dash with a 1:01.82 mark.

The Wellington girls 4×400 relay team consisting of McGlothlin, Schettler, Treadway and Nelson would finish first with a 4:30.39 time, three seconds faster than the second place Clearwater team. The 4×100 relay team of Shore, Schettler, McGlothlin, Nelson would finish second with a 53.08 time.

On the boys side, Colin Reichenberger set another school record in the 110 meter hurdles with a 14.66 time, which is a new school record.  Needless to say he finished first. He also finished first in the 300 meter hurdles with a 41.68 time. Reichenberger leads Class 4A in both the 110 and 300 meter hurdles statewide. He also has the best mark in all classes in the 300 hurdles.

On April 21, Wellington boys would win in Caldwell, scoring 88 points, beating South Barber with 76 points. Wellington girls would finish fourth with 68.5 points. Caldwell girls would win the track meet with 115 points.

Results from that track meet can be found here.

The Wellington High School track invitational will be held Friday. The field events start at 3 p.m. with the running events thereafter around 5 p.m.

“There is something about our own track meet where we post our best times,” said Tyler Ryan, Wellington head track coach. “I urge everyone to come out and see us perform.”

Wellington boys tennis

The Wellington tennis squad finished fifth in the Winfield Viking Invitational Friday. Tyler Pettegrew and Brock Edwards had the best finish of the day, placing fourth – the same as they were seeded.

“They beat a good Winfield team (Crowe/Crowe) 8-3 and got into the semifinals before losing the next two matches against Independence and Newton,” said Allen Keller, Wellington head tennis coach.

No. 1 singles player Ian King finished 11th while No. 2 singles player Jaden Adams finished 12th out of 16 entries. Ryberg/Driskell also had a tough day finishing 13th.

The Wellington girls softball team played Buhler again and would dominate them like they did at their house a week earlier, winning 15-0 and 16-1.

This was a mismatch from the start. Wellington would run-rule Buhler in both contests in four innings. Madi Lewellen was the winning pitcher in game one while Jaden Dry was victorious in game two. Wellington is now 8-8 for the season. The Crusaders host Winfield on Thursday.
