By Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — 2013 Wellington High School juniors; Holly Wright, Ben Dejarnett, and Gracie
Defore after being nominated by their teacher Mike Wilmoth after completing a lengthy essay application to attend the 2013 Constructional Summer Academy held in Washington DC.
The Constitutional Academy will be held July 15-20, 2013.
The Constitutional Academy – Your Liberty, Your Future is a program of the Bill of Rights Institute, an educational non-profit organization based in Arlington, Virginia, whose mission is to educate young people about the words and ideas of America’s Founders, the liberties guaranteed in our Founding documents, and how our Founding principles continue to affect and shape a free society.
Thanks to the generous support of the Bill of Rights Institute’s donors, all accepted students will receive a program scholarship which covers the cost of program experiences, lodging, meals, and site visits while in Washington, D.C.
Select students will also receive a travel scholarship.
For students who do not receive this additional travel scholarship, the only cost that student/family will incur is travel to and from Washington, D.C. All expenses once students arrive at the program will be covered by the Institute.
The Constitutional Academy is designed for high school students who love history, the Constitution, politics, or economics. This program allows students to experience Washington, D.C. through site visits, scholar lectures and discussions, activities, group projects, and college and career panels.
During the Constitutional Academy, students learn from college professors and subject-matter experts about how history, economics, politics, and current events connect.
