Rod Jacobs (center) was the winner of the “We, The People” rifle. Organizer John Munro made the presentation with Wellington Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kelly Ford.

by John Munro, special to Sumner Newscow — The winner of the Henry “We The People” rifle is Rod Jacobs.  For the second year in a row, the winning ticket was sold by Smoker’s Choice, one of my top selling vendors.  Rod said he bought a book of five tickets.

As some of you might already know, this is the last year I’ll be doing the raffle.  However, we are talking to a replacement, so we sincerely believe that we can keep this event alive and on-going. I’ll keep everyone up to date on this as we work things out.

There is just no way I can thank the people involved in this project enough.  My sponsor/vendors this year, Smoker’s Choice, Impact Bank, Bank of Commerce, Mill Creek Lumber, Renn and Company, Wellington Wheel and Alignment, Travelin’ Smoke BBQ, Sears Hometown Store, Hobbs Mechanical, The Gold Corner, Sumner Communications, Trigger Guard Shooting Range, Mayfield Grocery and Locker, Wellington Animal Clinic, Orscheln’s, Vince Erwin Glass, The Dore, Sunflower Custom T’s, Personal Threads, M and M Printing, K T Kustoms, and individuals Vince Wetta and Terry Nunemaker, you people are the greatest!

Henry Repeating Firearms, our vendor of choice the last three years, has been the very best people in the industry to work with.  They have came thru with the best quality, most unique works of art for us.  You folks are wonderful at what you do, and for that a big than you.

Also great thanks go out to Scott Funderburk, John Cook and Ronnie Carroll for building the great looking display base and plexiglass cover.  Super job you all did!

Special thanks to Wellington Area Chamber of Commerce for their help and encouragement promoting this event, not only are they great people to work with, they have became very dear friends of mine.  Kim Woodrow for his help, Becky Cox with M and M printing for her design and printing of the posters and tickets, and of course Jane Cole, my lifelong friend, who single-handed sold over 150 tickets in two days!  Media sponsor who have helped with the promotion of the event, plus reported on the various news worthy happenings, Sumner Newscow, Sumner Communications, Wellington Daily News and Rocking M Radio.

But most of all, I want to thank everyone who bought tickets, T’shirts, or caps that helped us achieve our goals these last four years.  What started out as a pledge to raise $5,000.00 for the Wellington Food Bank at the beginning, has now exploded to over $20,000.00!  I am so proud of all of you, the sponsor/vendors, media, individuals who have helped in many ways, and especially the general population, God bless all of you!  John Munro
