Oxford baseball team ranked No. 7 in latest coaches poll: Coaches association rankings
by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — The Oxford High School baseball team is ranked No. 7 in the latest Kansas Baseball Coaches Association poll, after losing to No. 6 Sedan in a double-header sweep on Tuesday.
Oxford lost to Sedan 8-7 and 16-7. The Wildcats are 2-2 after sweeping Central Burden 13-1 and 15-3 to start the season last week.
Oxford head coach Kyle Green said about Sedan’s double header:
When you walk 25, which leads to 21 runs, you are going to have a hard time winning against good teams. Sedan is a very good ball club. Solid pitching, solid defense, and they take care of business at the plate as well. We hit the ball well, put it in play, scored enough runs to win.
Our defense was solid, zero errors in the DH. However, when you put people on base via the walk, you are asking for disaster. We got back to work last night, continue to get better everyday. We need to learn from this DH and apply that going into next week. We are still a relatively young team that needs to take care of business in every aspect of the game. We played great D monday night, we hit the heck out of the ball, unfortunately we didn’t do a good job on the bump. That will get better. Best thing was we were able to throw 6 kids and get some experience. That will pay off in the long run.Â
