Shirley Raney, 84, of Winfield, formerly of Wellington, died peacefully Friday, April 1, 2016 at the Kansas Veteran’s Home in Winfield surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at the Shelley Family Funeral Home in Wellington. Visitation will be held Tuesday, from 9 a.m.., until service time at 11 a.m., no family night is scheduled. Interment will be at the Veterans Cemetery in Winfield. A memorial has been established with the Bryce Day Memorial Fund and may be left with the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Wellington. For further information please visit www.shelleyfamilyfh.com.

Shirley Ann Raney was born on April 12, 1931 the daughter of George R. and Cora (Macklin) Kolb in Kansas City, Missouri. She was a 1948 graduate of Stillwell, Kansas High School. On January 15, 1949 she was united in marriage to Harold L. Raney. Shirley was a homemaker who worked as a legal secretary for Jack Potucek. She was a secretary at the First National Bank and later as secretary for the City Manager of Wellington. Shirley was a member of the Wellington Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed bridge, playing the piano, doing crossword puzzles and loved to travel.

Shirley is survived by her daughters: Cheryl Hinshaw of Wichita, and Judy Raney of Lawrence; granddaughter, Julie Thatcher and husband John and grandson, Greg Hinshaw and wife Kelsi; and a brother, Kenneth Hays of Hermitage, Mo. She leaves behind her great grandchildren: Creighton, Drake and Mercer Thatcher and Banks and Addison Hinshaw.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold on December 25, 2015 and son-in-law Richard Hinshaw.
