Volunteers are needed for the Fire/EMS strategic planning committee

Wellington fire logo use this oneSumner Newscow report — Wellington Fire/EMS will begin a strategic planning process that will encompass input from internal and external stakeholders.  The input provided will be put into a document that will guide the department  for the next five years on what type of services to be provided, apparatus replacement, community involvement, staffing models, fire/safety education and efficiency to name a few.

There will be meetings with city/Fire/EMS staff and with volunteers from the public to establish Goals & Objectives. Volunteers are needed from the public to make this document a success.  As a volunteer the time dedicated to this project is three meetings and some homework.  If you would like to volunteer for the strategic planning committee please call Tim Hay at 620 326-7443.

The first meeting should take place in July and will be in the evening.  The Goals & Objectives will be specific with timelines, costs and who will be responsible for implementation.  The first step in this process was for Fire/EMS staff to compile topics for discussion during the meetings.  The second step is for a questionnaire to be sent out to the public for their input on department services and functions.

The survey can be accessed at http://goo.gl/forms/2MQPQMT5Zs.   The questionnaire is also located on the cities website (fire department).  After the questionnaire has time to generate submissions that input will be compiled into statistical information for the stakeholders to review and inject into the Goals & Objectives.  As the city staff and public joint committee reviews all information given to them they will identify the department’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats for the final document.

After their work the document will be given to the city manager and city council for their approval.
