Several Halloween events taking place this weekend

by Amber Schmitz, Sumner Newscow — With Halloween approaching on Monday, there are many local events taking place this week where children are sure to get more than enough candy.

The fun starts Friday with the Wellington Recreation Center’s Halloween Fun Fest from 6:30-8 p.m. for grades 1-5. The Recreation Center’s Little Mummies party is Saturday, Oct. 29 from 1-2 p.m. Also on Saturday is a Halloween dance for grades 6-8. There are fees for these programs.

On Saturday, Oct. 29, Church Ignited will host their annual free Halloween Hullabaloo, with games, candy and treats for kids, from 6-8 p.m. at their church, 715 N. Woodlawn.

Also on Saturday, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints will host a Trunk or Treat from 6-8 p.m. at 1003 W. 22nd St. The free event is open to ages 18 months to 12 years old who are accompanied by an adult.

Come in costume, but they ask that you don’t wear masks, and you will be trick or treating from car to car.

Sunday, Oct. 30, the Freewill Baptist Church will host a free Trunk or Treat from 4 to 7 p.m.

Trick or Treat Down the Street will take place on Halloween, Monday, from 4 to 8 p.m. Children can walk downtown and receive treats from businesses and organizations.
