According to a Wellington Fire Department report, emergency personnel responded to a fire in the attic of a one story home owned by Curtis Lyne and occupied by Christina Lyne.
Wiring in the home ignited structural members and insulation above a bedroom. Firefighters gained access through the ceiling to extinguish the fire. The fire was under control at 1:20 a.m.
Fire damage was limited to a small area of the attic. No smoke damage occurred to the living area of the home. Occupants of the home were alerted to the fire due to a smoke odor.

There was one fire engine, a ladder, administrative pickups, medic vehicles on the scene. Mutual aid was received by Mayfield Fire District 8 and Belle Plaine Fire District 9.
There were no injuries.
Wellington Fire Chief Timothy Hay said older wiring such as a knob and tube are susceptible to starting a fire when the wiring is overloaded. If you have a knob and tube wiring and/or an older breaker box have an electrician inspect the wiring to prevent a fire. Always have working smoke detectors throughout the home, he said.
