(Updated Thursday) Female passenger killed in 2-car auto accident west of Oxford this afternoon
(Updated Thursday, 10 a.m.) by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — A 28-year-old Arkansas City woman has died in a two-car accident occurring two miles west of Oxford Wednesday afternoon, according to a Sumner County Sheriff report.
Sheriff Captain Mike Westmoreland said authorities are still waiting to release the names of the accident victims until all family members have been notified. Â On Wednesday, at 2:30 p.m., a black 2005 Trailblazer SUV driven by Gasper Fransisco-Ramirez, 26, of Arkansas was driving eastbound on U.S. 160 when he crossed the center line at the intersection of Greenwich Road and U.S. 160 and collided head on with a westbound black 2008 Chevrolet 1500 pickup that was driven by a 52-year-old male from Yale, Okla.
The Sumner County Sheriff office, Wellington Fire/EMS, Winfield EMS, and Oxford Fire Department and first responders responded to the scene. A helicopter was requested. Upon arrival, according to a Wellington Fire/EMS report, authorities found two vehicles heavily damaged. Two occupants were trapped and one occupant had exited his vehicle.
Wellington and Oxford worked together to extricate the two trapped occupants.
The driver of the Trailblazer was transported to Sumner Regional Medical Center and was listed in serious condition while the female passenger in the vehicle was declared dead at the scene. According to the Wellington EMS/Fire report, the male occupant in the pickup was also taken to SRMC hospital but was released with minor injuries.
The occupants in the Trailblazer were boy friend and girl friend, according to the sheriff report.
The investigation is still ongoing.
