Accident south of Wellington yesterday results in one injury
By Pam Strader, Sumner Newscow — At approximately 2:25 p.m. on Tuesday, a three-vehicle accident temporarily shut down U.S. 81, one mile south of Wellington.
According to a Kansas Highway Patrol report, a 2009 Malibu driven by Alecia Mortimer, 34, of Wellington was southbound on U.S. 81 and went left of center, hitting a camper/trailer being towed by a 3500 Dodge Ram truck driven by Aubery Hill of Conway Springs.
After hitting the camper/trailer, she lost control and was driving southbound in the northbound lane before striking a 2006 Freightliner driven by Smart L. Costa of Wichita.
Mortimer was transported to Wesley Medical Center with suspected serious injuries. There were no apparent injuries to the other people in the wreck of the other two vehicles. Mortimer’s vehicle and the camper trailer were both towed from the scene. Neither the Freightliner nor the pickup towing of the camper trailer was towed.
