After more than 3 weeks, Wellington basketball teams get back on the hardwood tonight
Sumner Newscow report — The last time Wellington got on the hardwood to play an actual competitive basketball game against another school was Dec. 19 — more than three weeks ago.
Wellington travels to Wichita Collegiate tonight to open up the second stage of the season. The varsity girls tip off at 6 p.m. The boys will play thereafter at 7:30 p.m. There will be no JV girls game tonight, but there will be a JV boys game at 5:45 p.m. and the freshmen at 4:15.
Once the season restarts, it will really restart. Wellington has a trip to Andale scheduled for Friday (barring weather). The Crusaders will then host Clearwater on Monday, which is the makeup game originally scheduled last Friday.
The Crusaders will then split off to their mid-season tournaments. The girls are headed for Colby on Thursday, while the boys are going to Chaparral.
That’s six games in 10 days.
Then, because it is high school Kansas basketball and there is no logic in scheduling, both the boys and girls will be off for another 10 days until Jan. 30, when it hosts Augusta.
Here’s a look at the schedule in its totality:
Tonight – Wichita Collegiate, away.
Jan. 12 – Andale, away.
Jan. 18- 20 – Girls at Colby Tournament: Wellington vs. Olathe East, Thursday, 4:45 (see bracket here)
Jan. 17-20 — Boys at Chaparral Tournament (bracket TBA).
Jan. 30 – Augusta, home.
Feb. 6 – Circle, away
Feb. 9 – El Dorado, home (homecoming).
Feb. 13 – Rose Hill, away.
Feb. 16 – Clearwater, away.
Feb. 20 – Wichita Collegiate, home.
Feb. 22 – Andale, home (Senior Night).
