Payton Baker

by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — If you are heading to Las Vegas, perhaps you might want to bring Payton Baker along.

Baker is a Wellington High School junior and won’t be able to get in any of the casinos. But, perhaps, his presence of good luck might rub off on you.

You think Wichita State’s run to the Final Four was incredible. Baker won the Pigshack/Sumner Newscow Bracketbuster Challenge. He is the winner of a cold clean $200.

If that name is familiar to you, Baker also won The Dore/Sumner Newscow Bowl Contest in January.

Considering the incredible odds of that happening. We had over 200 bowl entries and over 50 tournament brackets. So let’s round off the numbers and say Baker had a 1 in 200 chance of winning the bowl contest and a 1 in 50 chance of winning the bracket contest. That is a 1 in 10,000 chance of him winning both contests.

Those finishing second and third and winners of the $50 and $25 gift certificates to Pigshack are RichardDrRad bracket and Doug’s Game Changing Bracket respectively. Those winners need to call me at 620-326-0717 or send me an e-mail at sumnernewscow@gmail.com to claim your prizes.

Baker chose Louisville to win it all. So did many others. But what lifted Baker to the top is he also had Syracuse in the Final Four.

Congratulations to the winners and thanks to those participating. Next year we’ll make some adjustments, make it more user friendly for everyone.
