(Updated 11:15 a.m. Friday) Another quick storm came through Wellington this morning
by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — Holy Cow! Another super cell system came through Wellington this morning at 5:30 a.m. This storm brought in .9 inches of rain and created more tree-falling havoc.
This just in from the City of Wellington…
The Wellington Compost Site will be open today ~ July 8, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to accommodate cleanup from this morning’s storm. Normal hours on Saturday are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
City crews will be out today picking up limbs along the streets in the affected areas of town. This will consist of limbs and trees growing on the public right-of-way.
Please be advised there are still a lot of broken limbs hanging from trees. We do not recommend parking vehicles under large trees and walkers need to be aware of limbs overhead. Special care and precautions need to be taken when removing limbs above the head to prevent personal injury or property damage.
In other news, some people are without electrical power in town. Wellington City Manager Shane Shields reported about 200 city customers were off, and 100 rural customers. He said as of 11:30 a.m. that 35 still need power restored. The biggest problem was four broken electric poles.Â
Weather forecasters are calling for 15 to 20 percent of rain for the rest of the day with it jumping up significantly at 55 percent chance at 11 p.m. Friday. So get in your Wheat Festival rides early. It should be humid throughout the day hovering at 56 to 87 percent.
There is one consolation. Temperatures are dipping into the lower 80s.
