Argonia girls advance to Class 1A- Div. II state volleyball tournament with win over Caldwell

Argonia Red Raiders logoSumner Newscow report — The Argonia girls volleyball team will be going to state tournament for the second consecutive year.

Argonia defeated Caldwell in the sub-state championship at its home gymnasium with a 25-15, 25-19 victory over Caldwell.

The Red Raiders opened with a 25-10, 25-11 win over Elk Valley in the first round. Caldwell staved off Norwich in a thriller 26-24, 28-26 in the other match to set up the all Sumner County sub-state championship showdown.

Argonia will advance to the Class 1A-Div. II state tournament at Fort Hays State University this Friday, Oct. 31 and Saturday, Nov. 1.

The state tournament will include two brackets and Argonia is guaranteed three matches. The Red Raiders will be the No. 7 seed. Logan (22-6) will battle Argonia (22-15) in the first match of the day at 8:30 a.m.

Argonia will then play Beloit-St. Johns/Tipton (26-10) at 11:30 a.m. At 12:30 p.m. Axtell (24-15) will then play Argonia. The Red Raiders will need to finish in the top two of pool play to advance to the semifinals on Saturday.

The other Class 1A Div. II volleyball teams on the other side of the bracket include: Sharon Springs(32-3), Sylvan Grove (20-16) Grainfield-Wheatland/Grinell (28-11) and Fowler (25-10).
