Argonia volleyball team advances to state semifinals with 3-0 start; Caldwell eliminated in first round

Sumner Newscow report — The Argonia Red Raider girls volleyball team went 3-0 on Friday and has advanced out of pool play as the top seed in the Class 1A Div. II State volleyball tournament at Fort Hays State University at Gross Memorial Coliseum.

Caldwell, on the other hand, was eliminated in the Class 1A Div. 1 state tournament also at Hays.

Argonia, winner of pool 2, will play Dighton, runner-up in pool 1, in the semifinals at 2 p.m. Baileyville B&B, winner of pool 1, will battle Logan, runner-up in pool 2, on the other side of the court at the same time. Argonia will either play for the state championship 15 minutes later or the consolation championship if it loses .

On Friday, Argonia would beat Logan in three sets 25-20, 19-25, and 25-20. Then at 6:30 p.m. Argonia would sweep Attica, 25-15, 25-19. In the night camp at 8:30 p.m. Argonia would beat Sharon Springs 25-18, 25-15 to win pool B.

Argonia will play the runner-up of Pool A which is Dighton. Argonia is the No. 3 seed and Dighton is the No. 5 seed in the tournament. On the other side Baileyville B&B is the No. 1 seed and Logan is the No. 6 seed. Full results can be found here:

Caldwell was the top seed in Class A Div. 1, but would go 1-2 for the day and get eliminated in the first round.

The Bluejays would beat LaCrosse 25-19, 26-24 in the first round. Caldwell would lose to Goessel in three sets, 20-25, 25-7, 25-22 in the second round. Spearville would then beat Caldwell 25-14, 25-22 to end the Bluejays great season.
