Arlen ‘Shorty’ David Baker, 78, Wellington: May 4, 1944 – Oct. 30, 2022

Arlen “Shorty” David Baker, of Wellington, died at the Robert J. Dole VAMC in Wichita on Sunday, October 30, 2022, at the age of 78. 

Shorty was born on May 4, 1944, the son of Elmer and Ella (Darrow) Baker in Alburgh, Vermont. He was a graduate of Alburgh High School.

Shorty joined the Air Force in 1961. There he became a Weather Forecaster, a Weather Equipment Repairman, and an Aircraft Pneudraulic Technician. After 21 years, he retired from the Air Force. Shorty then started work in Wellington as a Quality Control Engineer in the aircraft industry.

He and Sandy (Frost) were united in marriage on June 19, 1991, at the Courthouse in Wellington. Together they shared 31 years of marriage and made many memories.

Shorty loved camping and fishing at Wellington Lake all summer long. The lake is where he made many friends and enjoyed sitting around the fire. If Shorty was in town you could most likely find him at the golf course or hanging out at the VFW.

Shorty is survived by his wife, Sandy Baker; sons: Shon Baker and Brett Baker and his wife, Andrea; step-sons: Terry Gandy and Ricky Gandy; step-daughter, Shanda Hines and her husband Dave; sister-in-laws, Barbara Baker and Virginia Baker; and many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert K. Baker; brother Richard Allen Baker; and twin siblings who passed away soon after birth.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, November 7, 2022, at the Veterans Cemetery, Winfield,
