Augustus Hart injured and arrested after high-speed chase Friday afternoon
Sumner Newscow report — The following is a press release by the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office concerning a Friday afternoon car chase.

On Friday, January 20 at 2:21 p.m., deputies attempted to arrest Augustus Hart of Wellington on a felony arrest and detain warrant. Contact was made with Hart in the 600 block of North G Street, where he backed into a Sheriff’s vehicle in order to escape.
Deputies pursued Hart through Wellington out to the Kansas Turnpike, where he traveled southbound towards Oklahoma. A deputy was able to get ahead of Hart and set up stop sticks at mile marker 4 on the turnpike, South Haven exit. The deputy was able to deploy the stop sticks successfully, but Hart’s vehicle ran into the back of the deputy’s patrol vehicle. Hart’s vehicle went into the ditch, where it caught fire.
Hart was pulled from the vehicle to safety; deputies rendered first aid until Wellington EMS arrived.
Hart was transported to a Wichita hospital for treatment, where he remains. Hart was arrested on his warrant. The deputy was not injured.
The investigation is continuing.
