(Updated 4:09 p.m.) Lindsey Blansett, 33, of Wellington is in custody on suspicion of murder of 10-year-old son
by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow and Shane Farley, Newscow.net  — Lindsey Blansett, 33, of Wellington is being held in Sumner County jail on suspicion of killing her 10-year-old son.
The Sumner County Attorney’s office is expected to receive an autopsy report from the Sedgwick County Forensic Science Center and determine whether or not to file charges on Blansett concerning the death of a Lincoln Elementary student.
The WPD, assisted by the Sumner County Sheriff Department has been conducting a homicide investigation of a Blansett, who is being held in custody at Sumner County jail
Another child, about the same age of the boy, has been placed in protective custody, according to Tracy Heath, Wellington Police Chief. Â No one else was hurt at the residence.
According to a WPD press release, the juvenile male had sustained a puncture wound to the chest.
Heath said officers received a 911 call at 11:45 p.m. concerning a death at the residence at 902 W. 7th in Wellington. The white house sits on the southwest corner of 7th and Park St. about a block south of the Braum’s Ice Cream and Dairy Store.
“I am confident that the first person we are investigating is our only suspect,†Heath said at a 1 p.m. press gathering.
The woman was at the house when the police arrived, Heath said. He would not state when the alleged crime took place, citing he is awaiting more evidence from the preliminary autopsy report which he expects to be available soon.
Heath said no drugs were involved in the incident.
The WPD executed a search warrant on the house and has submitted several items as evidence for forensic testing including the possible weapon.
The attorney’s office has 48 hours to file charges once a person is taken into custody. The woman was arrested around midnight.
The 10-year-old boy was a student at Lincoln Elementary.
USD 353 Superintendent Rick Weiss said counselors and faculty will be made available to students at Lincoln.
Counselors with South Central Kansas Education Service Center of Clearwater will be made available to students on an as needed basis.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the child and his family,” Weiss said.
