Barbara Sue Happy, 83, Wellington: March 9, 1939 – March 7, 2023

Barbara Happy

Barbara Sue (Slaughter) Happy was born March 9, 1939, in Wichita, to Lilly and John Slaughter. She grew up in Wichita and met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Happy, when she was 15 years old. They married on September 19, 1955, and went on to raise six children. They had many adventures in their 67 years and were co-owners of Happy’s Restaurant in Belle Plaine, and Happy’s Homegrown Vegetables. Barbara was a member of the First Baptist Church in Belle Plaine.

Barbara was predeceased by her son, Bobby Happy; mother and father; and seven brothers.

She is survived by her husband, Bob Happy; daughters: Bridget (Glenn) Bowman and Brenda (Clark) Phillips; sons: Bruce (Judy) Happy, Brian (Stephanie) Happy, and Brad (Margie) Happy; seven grandchildren: Dawn Albers, Abby Haralson, Megan Phillips-Nighswonger,  1st Lt. Stephen Happy, Brandon Happy, Clayton Happy, and Seth Happy; several great-grandchildren; brother, Paul Slaughter; sister, Marilyn Schmidt; sister-in-law, Wanda Clark; and brother-in-law, Kevin Happy.

Visitation for Barbara will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at the First Baptist Church in Belle Plaine from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with the family present. Funeral services will start promptly at 11 a.m.

A memorial has been established in her loving memory to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the American Heart Association. Contributions may be mailed or left with the funeral home.
