Batman is the Wellington Humane Society Pet of the Week
Batman was a 2-3-year-old former neighborhood street cat. Sadly, he tested to be FIV-positive. FIV is Feline Immunodeficiency Virus passed mainly from cat bites to other cats. It cannot be passed to humans. It is very common in feral and outside cats. That is why neutering feral cats and any cat that goes outside can reduce the risk of them fighting and passing this on to others!
There are no specific signs of FIV infection. FIV-positive cats have a weakened immune system so they are more prone to infections such as upper respiratory infections and dental disease. There is no cure, but the main issue is catching other infections. So monitoring and keeping them away from other cats is key. Other than that, they can live a normal happy life. Many shelters euthanize FIV-positive cats due to overcapacity, and adopting an FIV-positive cat is harder. We believe Batman can find a home that is right for his scenario and will love him like any other cat. Technically he can be around other cats if they get along really well. There is a risk of passing the FIV if they were to fight and bite each other. So a home without other cats is preferred but not mandatory. He will also need to be an inside-only cat.
Batman has a super sweet personality! He is a little shy but loves to cuddle and lounge with you. He’s a pretty laid-back guy! Are you able to adopt a special cat like Batman? Please share his information so that we can find the right home for this special guy.
